Books Read: Alexandra Brown - Cupcakes at Carrington's

Georgie Hart loves her job--running the luxury handbag concession at Carrington's Department store in the pretty seaside town of Mulberry Bay, and treating herself (once too often!) to a red velvet cupcake with buttercream icing in Carrington's café. 

But Georgie is thrown into disarray when Carrington's is plunged into a recession-busting makeover, cueing the arrival of femme fatale Maxine, who wields the axe in her immaculately-manicured hands.

It spells a recipe for disaster for Georgie and soon she is fighting not only for her job, but also for the attentions of her gorgeous boss, James. And when hot newcomer Tom arrives, who may or may not be the best thing since sliced bread, Georgie must decide where her loyalties really lie...

Cupcakes at Carrington's was my top pick of the January releases and the book I was most looking forward to reading and it didn't disappoint.

Georgie Hart has worked hard to make a good life for herself following the tragic events of her childhood.  She has her dream job working at prestigious Carrington's department store selling designer handbags and a great friend in Sam who also works at Carrington's running the Cafe where she gets to enjoy a Red Velvet cupcake or two whilst catching up on all the news.  

But it looks as things are about to change for Georgie and not necessarily for the better.  Management consultant Maxine has been brought in shake things up and soon Georgie finds that not only does she have to compete to keep her job against her boss James, who she's always had a bit of a thing for, but there's also a handsome newcomer Tom to contend with...   Will Georgie come out the victor in the end?

Well what can I say about this book, there's only one word to say really and that's WOW, I loved it right from the off and totally fell in love with Georgie as a character.  Her heart is in the right place and despite some of the scenarios she got herself into you just couldn't help but route for her and want it to work out alright for her in the end. 

There is such a delightful mix of other characters in the book as well as Georgie but I have to say she had competition as my favourite character from her gay best friend Eddie, he sounds like such a scream and would be an hilarious addition to any night out. 

The cover alone is stunning and will make you want to pick up the book but the descriptive writing within will make you feel that you're walking along the floors of Carrington's perusing the luxury goods on sale. 

This was one story that I did not want to put down and I had several late nights and one extremely long lunch hour where I was totally engrossed in reading that I lost track of the time... just as well we work flexitime!

And the good news is that Cupcakes at Carrington's is the first book in a series so they'll all be back soon, well I hope they all will be, but we'll have to wait and see.  The next installment, Christmas at Carrington's, is due to be published in November so only another 10 months to wait!
