Debut Spotlight: Claire Garber

Today's spotlight feature introduces you to Claire Garber whose debut book Love is a Thief is published on 4th July.

Claire Garber was born in Southampton, England in 1978, the same year Olivia Newton-John told John Travolta he was the one that she wanted and Space Invaders were launched.

Claire did nothing remotely of interest until aged 26 when she visited the French Alps and fell in love with every single French man she met. That year she started writing obsessively about her thoughts and feelings all of which seemed to revolve around love and French boys and heart-break. Aged 26 ¾ her friends urged her to try and do something more ‘constructive’ with her scribbles which gave birth to the beginnings of several novels, about boys, culminating in Love is a Thief - a book she stated aged 31 after her biggest heart break of all.

Claire has worked as a freelance winter sports travel writer, a copy writer and in property, all as a means to fund her writing. More recently she planted some magic beans. She now lives between London and the French Alps working as a Film Location Agent in London and working at finding a French boyfriend when in France. How else will she ever manage to write another book?

Love is a Thief is her first novel and will be published in July 2013.

What did you miss out on because you fell in love?

I might just be ‘that’ girl. You know the one. The girl who, for no particular reason, doesn’t get the guy, doesn’t have children, doesn’t get the romantic happy ever after. So I needed to come up with a plan.

What did I like doing? What didn’t I get to do because I fell in love? What would I be happy spending the rest of my life doing if love never showed up again?

Kate Winters is going on a journey to do all the things that love has snatched from her and her friends, to reclaim her dreams and theirs in the hope of finding her future.

But there’s a chance that new dreams are better than the old…

To get you in the mood you can download Love's Stolen Dreams, a free short story which gives you an introduction to Kate Winters and her quest to take back what love stole.  If you'd still like to know more why not head over to the Love is a Thief website or follow Claire on Twitter.
