Books Read: Kirsty Greenwood - Yours Truly

Newly engaged Natalie Butterworth is an easy-going girl. She'll do anything for a quiet life and if telling a few teensy white lies keeps her friends and family happy, then so what? It's not like they'll ever discover what she's really thinking ...

Until one night, thanks to a pub hypnotist, Natalie's most private thoughts begin to bubble up and pop out of her mouth. Things get very messy indeed, especially when some sticky home truths offend her fiancĂ©.

Natalie must track down the hypnotist before her wedding is officially cancelled. So along with bad influence bestie Meg, Natalie finds herself in the Yorkshire Parish of Little Trooley – a small village bursting with big secrets, nosy old folk and intriguing Wellington-wearing men.

When the girls get stuck in the village with no means of escape and no way to break the hypnotist's spell, Natalie is forced to face the truths she has been avoiding her whole life...

Natalie Butterworth is a young twenty-something who is getting married in a few weeks after reluctantly agreeing to let her mother and sister arrange the wedding.  She finds herself agreeing to all of their suggestions for an easy life even though none of them would be what she would have chosen herself!

When best friend Meg takes her for a night out to see a hypnotist at the local pub Natalie somehow ends up being hypnotised, instead of Meg, which results in her only ever being able to tell the truth which is very problematic for someone who is constantly telling little white lies so as to not offend others.

After upsetting her fiance by responding truthly to something he asks her, Natalie and Meg set off on a mission to try and track down the hypnotist to unhynpnotise her.  Their mission sees them ending up in the village of Little Trooley where they meet some interesting locals including handsome Riley, who runs the local pub, but the hypnotist is nowhere to be found...

This was one of those books that you couldn't help but laugh out loud whilst you were reading, there were comedy moments right from the very first chapter when Natalie's good nature means she cannot complain about a hair cut!

Natalie was such a likeable character although at first I wanted to shout at her to stand up for herself so I was pleased to see her blossom as the story progressed. And as for Riley, can you fall in love with a character in a book?!  He sounded like such a dish...

Kirsty Greenwood is a woman of many talents, founder of review site Novelicious, which is one of the first review sites I used to regularly visit to read reviews, and now a successful published author with this fantastic debut. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Yours Truly and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from Kirsty in the future.

I'd like to thank Lucie at Pan Macmillan for sending me a copy of this book to review.
