Books Read: Melanie Hudson - The Wedding Cake Tree

Can a mother’s secret past provide the answers for a daughter’s future?

Celebrity photographer Grace Buchanan has always known that, one day, she’d swap her manic day job for the peace and quiet of her beloved childhood cottage, St Christopher’s – she just didn’t expect it to be so soon.

At the reading of her mother’s will, she’s shocked to learn that she hardly knew Rosamund at all, and that inheriting St Christopher’s hangs on one big – and very inconvenient – condition: Grace must drop everything for two weeks and travel the country with a mysterious stranger – war-weary Royal Marine, Alasdair Finn.

Caught in a brief but perfect moment in time, Grace and Alasdair walk in Rosamund’s footsteps and read her letters at each breathtaking new place. As Grace slowly uncovers the truth about her mother’s incredible life story, Alasdair and Grace can’t help but question their own futures. Will Rosamund’s madcap scheme go to plan or will events take an unexpected turn?

When Grace's mother died the last thing she expected to inherit was a trip down memory lane but at the reading of her mother's will she finds out that that's exactly what her mother has planned for her, to take off on a trip with a complete stranger Alasdair Finn.  And at each destination she will learn a little bit more about her mother's past, a life that she had known nothing about...

This was such a beautiful story that took you on the journey of discovery with Grace as she uncovered Rosamund's secrets, some of which were pretty surprising, as she travelled down memory lane bringing her into contact with people she never knew existed.

And as for the mysterious Alasdair he was definitely the stand out character for me, the strong dependable leading man who had his own issues to deal with but was there by Grace's side the whole way through offering her support if she needed it even if she didn't want to accept it...

It's hard to believe that this is Melanie's debut novel as she is such a beautiful storyteller, the writing flowed effortlessly and as each chapter progressed I was hooked and wanting to know more.  I cannot wait to see what Melanie has in store for us next.

And as for what a Wedding Cake Tree is, I'd never hard of one before but I know now ;-)

I'd like to thank Choc Lit for sending me a copy of this eBook to review.

Thank you, Sharon. I'm working on my second novel at the moment. It's called 'Indigo Starlight' named after the lead character, but it's about how all the characters in the story develop to discover their own 'inner indigo' - the light within (but all set in a romantic comedy). x

    1. Sounds good. I don't usually read romance but it is a genre I should read more of. When is it released?
