Books Read: Kathryn Flett - Separate Lives

Source - Received from Real Readers to review

Your partner of ten years, and the father of your children, receives a text. You happen to see it.

It says:

'Start living a different kind of life ... P :-) xxx'. You don't know a P.  But you know this spells trouble.

Although she knows she shouldn't Susie just cannot resist the temptation to read the texts in her partner Alex's phone whilst he's in the shower.  But the latest text, 'Start living a different kind of life... P :-0) xxx' casts doubts on her relationship and opens up a whole can of worms that threatens the cosy life they have together with their two young children.

Just who is this P, why are there three kisses and what does she mean by start living a different kind of life!  One thing is for sure life will never be the same for any of them as they are forced to examine their relationships...

The story is told from the standpoint of the three main characters, Susie, Alex and Pippa, the mysterious P and is told in three completely different ways;  Alex's story is told in email exchanges with his brothers, Susie's story is narrated and Pippa's is told through a letter to her mother.  This was an  interesting concept which I think worked well although at first I did find the jumping about between the different characters and timelines a bit off-putting but as the story unfolds I was intrigued to see how it would all work out for them in the end.  .

This book is definitely not your typical chicklit but it's an interesting tale of modern day relationships that I'm sure most of us can relate to in one form or other.  I'll be interested to see what type of book Kathryn Flett writes next.

You can buy Separate Lives as a paperback or Kindle now on Amazon.  I'd like to thank Real Readers (this is a great way to start reviewing) for sending me a copy of this book to review.
