Books Read: Veronica Henry - A Sea Change

Jenna is known as The Ice Cream Girl. She doesn't mind the name one bit. After all, there are far worse jobs than selling ice creams by the sea.  Then one hot summer's day everything changes and Jenna faces the most difficult decision of her life.

Craig spends as much time as he can at the beach hut in Everdene he rents with a few of his mates. It's the perfect break from his stressful job, and he loves to surf.  But one weekend he notices a girl on the beach - for all the wrong reasons.

For Jenna and Craig, it's a chance meeting which could change their lives for ever...

A Sea Change is part of the 2013 Quick Reads series which gets big name authors to write short books that are specifically designed to be easy to read so that anyone, no matter their reading level, can pick up the books to read.

It's been a stressful few months for Craig but as he nears the seaside resort of Everdene he starts to feel the weight lift off his shoulders knowing that he doesn't need to worry about anything except a weekend of surfing.

Jenna loves her job working at an ice-cream shop in the neighbouring resort, it might not pay much but so long as it pays enough to cover her rent she's happy, so she's not going to be happy with the news that her boss Terry gives her...

Still reeling from her news Jenna travels to Everdene where she literally bumps into Craig at the coffee shop.  When he spots her alone on the beach later Craig can't help but watch her but he's shocked when he realises what she's up to.  Will he be able to stop her from making the biggest mistake of her life?

I've only previously read one Veronica Henry book before, The Beach Hut, which is also set in Everdene.  At only 90 pages this is a light easy read perfect for a lazy afternoon curled up in front of the fire wishing we were on a warm beach somewhere.

The other books in the 2013 Quick Reads series include:

A Dreadful Murder - Minette Walters
Doctor Who: The Silurian Gift - Mike Tucker
Love is Blind - Kathy Lette
Today Everything Changes - Andy McNab
Wrong Time, Wrong Place - Simon Kernick

I love the sound of Veronica Henry's next book, A Night on the Orient Express, which will be published in July so this one has been added onto my Amazon wishlist.

I'd like to thank Orion Books for sending me a copy of this book to review.

  1. I love Veronica Henry. Have added this to my TBR even though it's a quick read. Thanks for introducing me to it, Sooz
