Books Read: Laura Ziepe - Essex Girls

Jade did everything she could to fit in at university and make boyfriend Tom happy – toned down her tan, gave up on her favourite fake lashes, and retired her curling tongs.  But something wasn't right.

When Jade finds Tom’s been cheating she heads home with a broken heart: to Essex. Reunited with her best mates Kelly and Lisa, even a night out at The Sugar Hut isn’t enough to put a smile back on her face. So they hatch a plan to get away from it all, to a place so ream it’s unreal – Marbella. Sun, sea, men, vajazzles: what could possibly go wrong?

Although I have to confess to having never watched an episode of TOWIE (The Only Way Is Essex for non-brits), I have read enough gossip mags to know that fake tan, bouncy hair and full-on glam has become known as the Essex style.  And in Essex Girls there is plenty of Essex glitz and style references throughout the whole book.

After she discovers that her boyfriend Tom has been cheating on her, Jade abandons her plans to stay in Bath and returns home to her beloved Essex to be consoled by her best friends Kelly and Lisa.  Kelly is shocked at how much Jade has changed since she's been with Tom, no fake tan and toned-down make-up, and sets out to give her an Essex makeover to return her to her true self.

But despite all their best intentions Jade needs something else to take her mind off things so, after doing promotions work at a club in Essex, Kelly suggests that they go and do club work in Marbella for the summer.  And soon they are having the summer of their lives with plenty of sun, alcohol, attractive men to look at, and of course glamorous bikinis... what more could a girl possibly need?

Essex Girls was such a fun, easy book to read right from the off... no complicated plots that you needed to concentrate to follow... it was simply a book full of laugh out loud moments at the situations they got themselves into and the things they said... sorry Kelly! One of my favourites would have to be the way that Jade gets her revenge on Tom... I'll leave it up to you to read the book to find out what she did.

This book will be the perfect read for any beach holiday this year but be warned... you'll find yourself laughing constantly so others around you might think you've escaped from the nuthouse.

I'm already looking forward to reading the next installment, Made in Essex, which is due out next year to see what the future has in store for Jade, Kelly and hopefully we'll see a bit more of Lisa.  I'd like to thank Becke at Avon for sending me a copy of this book to review.
