Books Read: Sheila O'Flanagan - If You Were Me

On a sultry summer evening in Seville, anything can happen...

Carlotta O'Keefe is happily engaged, and the wedding plans are coming together. She's clear about her future path, both personally and in her busy career. Maybe Chris doesn't make her heart race every time she sees him, but you can't have that feeling for ever. Can you?

Then, on a trip to Seville, Carlotta runs into Luke Evans. Luke broke her heart so long ago she'd almost convinced herself she'd forgotten him. Now, he's not that boy any more, but an attractive and intriguing man. And he can explain everything that happened way back when.

Suddenly Carlotta's not so sure of anything any more. Except that what she decides now will shape the rest of her life...

I'd initially planned to review If You Were Me as part of the Sheila O'Flanagan day yesterday but life got in the way and I didn't quite manage to finish reading the book in time.

If You Were Me revolves around career girl Carlotta who finds her life thrown upside down after a chance encounter with an old childhood friend in Seville.  Having overslept following a hectic schedule of business meetings, something so uncharacteristic for her, she realises that she's not going to make it back to Dublin in time for her fiance's mothers birthday party which not surprisingly he's not happy about.

Deciding to stay another night in Seville rather than heading to the airport in Madrid she bumps into Luke who offers her a place to stay and to show her the sights which gives them a chance to catch up with what's happened in their lives in the intervening years.

This chance encounter sets off a whole catalogue of events that make Carlotta take a look at her relationship with Chris and what it is that she wants out of life.  I'm sure we've all at sometime in our past wondered 'what if' and readers are left wondering will she/won't she as she considers all her options...

I loved the setting of Seville and Sheila's descriptive writing draws you in and you can almost picture the sights and sounds as if you were there yourself.  A fabulous read which I'm sad to have finished as now means I have another year to wait until her next book.

I'd like to thank Frances at Headline for sending me a proof copy of this book to review.
