I'd like to thank Veronique at Hodder & Stoughton for sending me a proof copy of Cold Feet: The Lost Years to review.

When I heard that Carmel Harrington was going to be writing a book featuring the characters from the iconic TV show Cold Feet, I was immediately intrigued as I loved watching the original series years ago but have to confess that I've not watched the 2 series that have been broadcast since it was re-launched a couple of years ago.  So for me it was not an issue that the book was going to pick up from where series 5 ended in 2003, as these were the characters and storylines that I still remembered, so reading this book was just like catching up with old friends (minus Rachel of course 😢).

There is just one minor gripe for me, and that's nothing to do with the fantastic writing of Carmel Harrington, and that is the title 'The Lost Years' as I was fully expecting the storylines within the pages of this book to span the years from 2003 up to when series 6 resumed in 2016 but that's not the case at all, in fact the book only really covers a short period of time and not the years I was expecting.

Within minutes of reading I was drawn right back into the drama of this close group of friends as we witness Adam struggling to adjust to his new role as a young widower with his baby son Matthew, and see how the lives of the other couples, Pete and Jenny, Karen and David, and have been affected by the events in their own lives too.  I'm glad that the book didn't just cover Adam's story, although he features quite heavily, but that we do also see how newly reconciled Pete and pregnant Jenny are rebuilding their relationship with a new baby on the way, and how Karen is coping with life after divorce and David's new relationship with Robyn.  The one thing that was abundantly clear, in the TV series and throughout the pages of this book, is that like most friendships and relationships, there are always ups and downs but in their hour of need they know they can call on their friends for moral support.

Carmel Harrington really hit the nail on the head with the characterisations of each of the characters and I found myself reading each of their parts of the book in the voice of those characters. Often when I'm reading a book I try to picture what I think the character looks and sounds like so as a series accompaniment it certainly helped me with that aspect of reading... particularly Adam's voice in his gorgeous Northern Irish accent, he was my favourite character in the original series and was again in this book, although Pete the cuddly joker comes a close second.

If you are a fan of the Cold Feet series then I think this is a must read, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

As well as the proof copy which I read for my review, I also received a finished hardcopy of Cold Feet: The Lost Years from Veronique which I've decided to do give away to a follower of the blog.
