Books Read: The Secret Keeper by Susan Lewis

You never forget your first love. 18 years ago, Olivia learned to live without Sean Kenyon.

She moved on, building a life with her husband Richmond and their two children in the picturesque town Kesterley-on-Sea.

But when Sean unexpectedly appears on Olivia’s doorstep, her world is turned upside down once more.

As old feelings resurface, and new truths come to light, Olivia finds herself questioning everything.

Is her husband really the person she thought he was?

The past and present collide, and Olivia must uncover the truth before it’s too late.

But if everyone is keeping secrets, how will she know who to trust?

I'd like to thank Becky at Arrow Publishing for inviting me to be a part of this blog tour and sending me a copy of The Secret Keeper to review.

Susan Lewis is still a fairly newish author to me despite her impressive back catalogue and the selection of her books that I have bought but not read yet... one day I will be able to read all day to reduce my TBR piles!   Once again Susan Lewis has written a book that really puts her characters through the emotional wringer, in this instance it's Olivia who when we first meet her has already been dealt a cruel hand with the diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer but now it would appear that things are not as they seem with her husband Richmond who has taken over the running of her family's business from her father.

The re-appearance of her first love Sean doesn't help as it brings back a whole host of emotions, wondering what her life would have been like with Sean if she had left with him all those years ago.  But then again if she had gone she wouldn't have met Richmond and had her children Luke and Sasha.  Sean and Richmond couldn't be more different so it's no wonder she's feeling so conflicted especially when she discovers why Sean is back.  But Sean is not the only old acquaintance to make a reappearance, there's someone else from her past that is on a disruptive path.  I can't really say anything else without giving away some major spoilers but it's fair to say that this story takes you along for the ride with the characters.  You know that something major is going to happen, you just don't know what or when so you just have to settle in and wait for the drama to unfold.

Olivia was a character that you couldn't help but warm to and want the best for her, not only was she a strong woman who has already survived cancer but she held her head up high when everything she thought she knew seemed to be falling down around her.  As for Richmond, he really was a sorry excuse for a man despite Olivia's portrayal of him as a loving husband and father, he was the complete opposite, weak-willed, extremely jealous and emotionally abusive.   It was also nice to see a familiar face make an appearance too, Andee Lawrence is a close friend of Olivia's and is there by her side to support her friend which is great as everyone needs someone to turn to in their hour of need.

The Secret Keeper really was family drama at its best with its intriguing plot and characters that you will either love or hate!  It was an utterly compelling read that had me constantly turning the pages wanting to see what was going to happen next which is the sign of a truly remarkable storyteller.
