Review & Giveaway: One Perfect Christmas and other stories by Paige Toon

One year after movie star Joseph Strike swept schoolteacher Alice off her feet, they are spending Christmas together in snowy Cambridge. But despite the romantic setting Alice can't help but question whether life in the spotlight is really what she wants.

Will a Christmas provide some perspective? Or will the life she’d be leaving behind be too much to lose?

In this irresistible collection, bestselling author Paige Toon reunites a much-loved cast from across her fifteen novels, including Johnny Be Good, The One We Fell In Love With and Thirteen Weddings. Fall in love with nine witty and heartfelt romantic stories, published in print for the very first time.

If you're a fan of Paige Toon's books then it is possible that you may have read all or some of these short stories before as some have been published as an ebook short story, and others have been exclusive extras as part of her Hidden Paige newsletter.  But there is also an addition of one new story, Laura's Longest Day which hasn't been published before.  I had read most of them previously but this didn't stop me from enjoying reading them all over again.

I don't know about you but sometimes when I've finished reading a book I quite often wonder what happened next to the characters which is one of the reasons why I enjoy reading Paige's newsletters for the bonus content.  It's always great to 'hear' what happens next or see a story being told from alternate viewpoints to give it a fresh emphasis.

Another one of the factors I enjoy about Paige's writing is the way that she quite often connects her stories so that we can be reading one story and then we come across a familiar character from a previous book as was the case for my personal favourite from this collection, When Lily Met Alice.  It's been quite a few years since I read Pictures of Lily so it was great to catch up with Lily and see what she's up to nowadays, and even though I haven't read One Perfect Summer, which features Alice, or Thirteen Weddings, which features another character Bronte who crops up in this short story, it didn't spoil this catch up for me.  If anything it has whetted my appetite to find the time to go back and finally read their stories as I do have both books in my TBR piles.

Due to their nature of being shorter in length than a standard novel, I don't tend to review short story collections as I have a chronic fear of spoiling or giving away too much information.  So all I will say is that these stories feature some of Paige's best loved characters giving us readers a chance to get reacquainted with some old friends.

One Perfect Christmas and other stories is the perfect antidote to the stresses and strains of everyday life, so sit down, relax and unwind with this wonderful cast of characters this Christmas.
