It's June 2008 and twenty-one-year-old Adam Lattimer vanishes, presumed dead. The strain of his disappearance breaks his already fragile family.
Ten years later, with his mother deceased and siblings scattered across the globe, Adam turns up unannounced at the family home. His siblings return reluctantly to Spanish Cove, but Adam's reappearance poses more questions than answers. The past is a tangled web of deceit.
And, as tension builds, it's apparent somebody has planned murderous revenge for the events of ten years ago.
I'd like to thank Milly at Quercus for inviting me to be part of this blog tour and for my proof copy of Six Wicked Reasons to review.
Despite having bought the first four books in the Tom Reynolds series as well as having both of Jo Spain's previous thrillers, The Confession and Dirty Little Secrets, in my TBR, Six Wicked Reasons is the first that I have finally read and reviewed. And boy what an intense and twisted read it was as the Lattimer family sure were one messed up bunch of individuals.
The story begins with the news that the prodigal son Adam has returned after a ten year absence, why he disappeared and why he has returned now is unknown, but the family are all summoned to the family home by Dad Frazer for a celebration. But it's not quite the one that they were anticipating and by the end of the weekend their lives will never be the same again...
To an outsider it looks like the Lattimer's have it all but scratch beneath the facade and you'll soon discover that every single member of the family has their fair share of issues or a skeleton in the closet. Some of their problems are common knowledge but others are deeply hidden, and they hope they stay that way, but one thing is for sure none of them are particularly happy to be back home.
At first the to-ing and fro-ing between the past and present as well as the six different siblings took me a little while to settle into the story but it wasn't long before I was totally swept along trying to figure out what it was that they were all hiding, and what exactly happened on that fateful boat trip. Any one of them could have had a legitimate reason to have been responsible, and to be honest who could have blamed them. I thought I had it all figured out but when the final reveal came, I was only partially correct.
I know that the author is now a screenwriter as well as full-time author and with Six Wicked Reasons she has written a novel that would be perfect for screen adaptation with its cast of flawed characters, intense family drama, as well as the picture perfect setting of Spanish Cove on the West coast of Ireland.
