Author Interview: Cassie Greutman

Today is my pleasure to welcome author Cassie Greutman to the blog to join in the publication day celebrations for her latest book Ecokinesis.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your writing journey started?
I’ve always loved reading. As an early teen I basically went through everything I was interested in at the library, so I started making up my own stories.

If you had to give an elevator pitch for your latest book Ecokinesis, what would it be?
A fae girl raised on Earth heads for Faerie on a desperate rescue mission. Hard to come up with something that doesn’t give away the entire story of book one 😃

After everything Trish has done to get to Sanctuary, nothing on earth could get her to leave.

But when Trish’s ex shows up with news that Starren’s life is in danger, her conscience refuses to let her sit idly by, even though that means abandoning her family, security, and everything she’s worked so hard to earn. Luckily, those who love her won’t let her go alone.

Leaving Sanctuary requires a trip to Faerie, a vicious and dangerous place where humans are hated and her people are most vulnerable. There she meets a dark and sinister relative.

As trouble escalates and the mission becomes deadly, can Trish draw enough power from her abilities to save her team and herself, or was this mission doomed to fail from the start?

The title is a bit unusual, how did it come about?
Each of the books in the series are named after a different fae ability, almost like a super power. Book one is called Regen, short for Regeneration, and book two is named after the ability to control plants.

If your Penchant for Trouble series was to be made into a film, who would you cast in the main roles?
That’s a tough one! I hadn’t really considered this question, I’d have to do some research!

Describe Trish in three words.
Independent. Conflicted. Loyal.

What attracted you to writing sci-fi/fantasy novels as opposed to any other genre?
I really like being able to change the rules of the real world. Life isn’t fair, never will be, but in fantasy, we can tweak things a little. I also love the thought of fantastical animals and creatures, I’m a huge animal fan haha

What do you think are the ingredients needed for a good science-fiction/fantasy novel?
A set of great characters. A good setting. And something for them to do!

What is the first book that you read that made you think 'I would like to write something like that one day'?
I’m going to go with The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley. Loved the main character.

What would you say is the best thing about writing? And on the flip side, what is the hardest?
The best part of writing is figuring out where the story is going for myself! If I’m working at a book and have to leave to go to my real job, all day I’m wondering what happens next. On the flip side, that makes editing the worst part for me, because I already know what’s going to happen.

If you could write in a collaboration with another author, who would you like to write with and why?
Oh, good question! I love Patricia Briggs and her Mercy Thompson series so much, I’m going to have to say her. Why not dream super high? ;)

What novel(s) have you read that you wish you had written?
The entire Green Rider series! So epic. I’m always anxiously awaiting the next book.

And finally, what can we expect from you next?
Book three in the Penchant for Trouble series is a third of the way written! I’m hoping for a fall release date!
