Guest Book Review: Kat Black - Playing with Fire

Reviewed by Sarah Pritchard

The steamy story of Annabel Frost and Aidan Flynn continues … Can you handle the heat?

Before Aidan Flynn had swept into her life with the destructive force of a wildfire, Annabel Frost had thought she'd had all she needed from her life. A successful career, financial independence, emotional restraint. Things that were safe, secure, steady. Everything her childhood hadn't been.

Aidan represented none of that. Reckless and risky he'd been the red hot flame that melted the icy layers of her long-frozen heart. Having run from him once, Annabel should have learnt to leave trouble well enough alone.

But now Aidan is back, turning up the heat. And regardless of the danger of getting herself badly burned, Annabel can't seem to resist the temptation to play with this particular fire.

Blogiversary: Kat Black interviews me plus giveaway for a signed copy of Melting Ms Frost

Today, as part of the excellent Shaz’s Book Blog Third Anniversary celebrations, we get the opportunity to turn the spotlight on our lovely hostess. Reviewer, book addict and cake consumer, Sharon has agreed to give us an exclusive glimpse of the woman behind the blog.

First off, congratulations on three fabulous years of book blogging, Sharon, and thanks for inviting me to the party and allowing me to interview you, it’s a nice place to be. Let’s get things warmed up with a quick fire round:

Summer or winter? Winter
Coffee or cocktails? Coffee
Ebooks or print books? Still prefer print books but am reading mainly eBooks now
Downton Abbey or Game of Thrones? Downton Abbey
Saturday sushi or Sunday roast? Sunday Roast
Tennis or football? Tennis
Beyonce or Bublé? Bublé
James Bond or Jack Bauer? Neither
Cake or cake? Cake all the time ;-)

How would you best sum yourself up for us in a single sentence?
Urghh hate these sort of questions!!  I’m boring really as all I do is work or read!

Tell us a bit about your reading life. Have books been a lifelong passion?
Yes, books have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

As a child I loved Beatrix Potter, as an early teen I was addicted to the Sweet Valley High books then my earliest romance reads came via Danielle Steel.

Which three books would you say have had the most impact on you throughout your life?
My all-time favourite book is Little Women followed closely by Pride and Prejudice, I just love re-reading these classics whenever I’m having a rough time.

Tough to make a third choice as there have been a couple of true-life stories that really made me appreciate that even though I have my own health issues they are nothing in comparison to what others have to deal with on a daily basis.  I think I will go with author Emma Hannigan’s book Talk to the Headscarf.

Known as one of the toughest women in the business, Annabel is impervious to Aidan’s many charms. His compelling grey gaze and persuasive Irish lilt do anything but captivate her.

But Aidan senses there’s more to Annabel than meets the eye. And he’s not going to stop until he reveals all…

Author Interview & Giveaway: Kat Black

Today I'm joined on the blog by Kat Black to tell us a little bit about her debut novel Melting Ms Frost  which is published tomorrow as well as offering one lucky reader the chance to win a copy of this eBook.

Thanks for having me here today, Sharon. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to share a bit about my new release, Melting Ms Frost, which is out through HarperCollins in ebook on the 28th November 2013 and paperback January 30th 2014. I have to admit to being almost beside myself with excitement and nerves as, although I’ve had a number of novellas and short stories published over the past couple of years, this is my first novel, and also my first taste of mass market commercial publishing. Hopefully I’ve managed to curb the worst of the crazy in order to keep the following answers to your questions relatively gush- and gabble-free.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Melting Ms Frost?
It’s a contemporary romance that tells the story of independent and career focused twenty-seven year-old London restaurant manager, Annabel Frost, who has a fearsome reputation as an ice queen – a label she’s more than happy to exploit both professionally and personally in her single-minded determination to achieve her life goals. Having seen her widowed mother fall victim to a string of charming chancers, she’s sworn never to make the same mistakes herself. In Annabel’s tightly controlled world, everything runs according to her precisely mapped out plans…until the arrival of her new barman. Daring and darkly handsome, Aidan Flynn – whose Irish blood runs as hot as Annabel’s does cold – is unlike anyone she’s ever met before. Unfazed by her frosty manner, he makes it clear from the start that he intends to turn up the heat between them, any way he can. And let me warn you, it’s not only Annabel’s temper that sparks in the ensuing battle of wills! Things get so HOT between these two that against her better judgement, Annabel feels her cold resistance start to melt, revealing yearnings for things she’s never dared to let herself want. But she’s left wondering if she’s made the biggest mistake of all when she discovers that Aidan Flynn isn’t at all the man he first appeared to be.
