Books Read: Scarlett Bailey - The Night Before Christmas

Source - Bought (Amazon)

All Lydia's ever wanted is a perfect Christmas...

So when her oldest friends invite her to spend the holidays with them, it seems like a dream come true. She's been promised log fires, roasted chestnuts, her own weight in mince pies - all in a setting that looks like something out of a Christmas card.

But her winter wonderland is ruined when she finds herself snowed in with her current boyfriend, her old flame and a hunky stranger. Well, three (wise) men is traditional at this time of year...

Set over the period of a week, this book really grips you from a start and draws you into the lives of Lydia and her old university friends. When her friend,Katy, invites her and her boyfriend Stephen to go and stay in her new country hotel in the Lake District, Lydia readily accepts as it will be great to spend time with Katy, Joanna and Alex.

When Joanna turns up with her new boyfriend Jackson, Lydia is shocked to discover that this is Jack who she had a fling with shortly before she met Stephen. In fact, it could be said that Stephen was a rebound fling and even though he's a really nice guy she's not really sure she's in love with him. Throw in greek god, I mean local handyman, Will into the mix and Lydia has certainly got her hands full this Christmas trying to avoid...and failing miserably... drama.

Throughout the book you discover snippets about each character and I have to say for a change I really liked every single one of them. This is an excellent debut novel and I will definitely look out for the next book from Scarlett Bailey as, if this one is anything to go by, the next one is also sure to be a bestseller.
