Countdown to Christmas Day 22: Festive Fun Q&A with Elle Field

Tonight's Countdown to Christmas feature is a festive fun Q&A with author Elle Field.

What’s your earliest or favourite Christmas memory?
One of my earliest Christmas memories involves my parents, my brother and I going away to the coast for Christmas - I can only have been three or four years old. I was terrified that Father Christmas wouldn't know that we weren't at home that Christmas and I'd wake up to find no presents under the tree... not that we had a tree in the hotel room! Thankfully, he must have got the memo we were away and found the right chimney for me because I, thankfully, had gifts galore to unwrap that Christmas morning!

What are you looking forward to most this Christmas?
Having the time to relax and recharge with great company, great food, and a great book (or two) to read.

Do you do the whole traditional Christmas dinner or have alternative?
The traditional dinner, though no sprouts or red cabbage for me please! If I'm with my partner's family we have turkey on Christmas Day; with my family we have a five-bird roast, much like Glinda's family do in Geli Voyante's Hot or Not!

What’s your favourite Christmas song or carol?
I'm sure it's the favourite Christmas song of a lot of other people, too... *coughs* Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas is you" is my absolute favourite Christmas song. I wasn't too keen on the version she did the other year with Justin Bieber though!

Do you have a favourite Christmas book that you read again and again?
I love "Twas The Night Before Christmas" by Clement C. Moore. I can't believe it's 190 years old, but I bet children (and adults) will still be reading it in another 190 years time - it's definitely a much loved Christmas classic.

Which singer/band would you like to turn up carol singing at your door?
Since I'm a massive fan of The Killers, I'd love them to turn up and sing some rock carols at my door. (And maybe a few of my favourite songs of theirs whilst they are there!)

If you could spend Christmas anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I'm hoping next year we will be spending Christmas in Vietnam - it would be somewhat surreal, I imagine, but spending it somewhere hot and sunny has to be done at least once in a lifetime.

Now a few quickfire questions to close...

Tree: real or artificial? Real

Fairy Lights: White or Multi-Coloured? White

Drink: Mulled Wine or Bucks Fizz? Definitely Bucks Fizz because I despise mulled wine!

Food: Mince Pies or Xmas Pud? Yuck - neither!

Games: Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit or something else? It has to be Monopoly.

Geli Voyante's Hot or Not blurb:

'I think I will always be known as the Hot or Not girl, defined by it for the rest of my career. Even my tombstone will read: Angelica “Geli” Voyante, beloved trendsetter. Death? Not Hot.

Yet, it doesn’t sound right. Why won’t anyone realise that there is more to me than this fickle
persona I have inadvertently become?'

Geli Voyante is bored of being the Hot or Not girl, even if it has the perk of sitting next to Theo, the newspaper's very Hot political columnist. She's also getting a little lonely being single.

When her arch-nemesis Tiggy Boodles gets engaged, and other loved ones start to settle down, it's time for Geli to convince Theo that she’s not as shallow as her column suggests and, more importantly, she’s the one for him. Geli should remember though that there are always two sides to every story, and that applies to people too...
