In the snowy perfection of Aspen, the White family gathers for youngest daughter Rosie's whirlwind Christmas wedding.
First to arrive are the bride’s parents, Maggie and Nick. Their daughter’s marriage is a milestone they are determined to celebrate wholeheartedly, but they are hiding a huge secret about their own: they are on the brink of divorce. After living apart for the last six months, the last thing they need is to be trapped together in an irresistibly romantic winter wonderland.
Rosie’s older sister Katie is also dreading the wedding. Worried that impulsive, sweet-hearted Rosie is making a mistake, Katie is determined to save her sister from herself. If only the irritatingly good-looking best man, Jordan, would stop interfering with her plans…
Bride-to-be Rosie loves her fiance but is having serious second thoughts. Except everyone has arrived – how can she tell them she's not sure? As the big day gets closer, and emotions run even higher, this is one White family Christmas none of them will ever forget.
I'd like to thank Jess from HQ for inviting me to be a part of this blog tour and for my copy of A Wedding in December to review. As I'd already bought a copy of the eBook, I am currently running a giveaway for the paperback copy I received which can be found here.
There's nothing I enjoy more in the build up to Christmas than a gorgeous, festive read and Sarah Morgan never fails to deliver on that front and this year is no exception with A Wedding in December. In her latest novel we're taken to the beautiful setting of Aspen, Colorado for the surprise upcoming wedding of Rosie, youngest daughter of Maggie and Nick, after a whirlwind romance. A wedding should be such a special moment for everyone involved but what happens when everyone comes together, will the secrets and fears they've all been hiding come to light?
Sarah Morgan has a knack of creating characters that you become fully invested in and that's definitely true for the three women in the White family, Maggie, Katie and Rosie. At first I was a little surprised at Katie's reaction to the wedding news and her plan to put a stop to it but as her story unfolded, the more I began to understand why she was acting the way she was. Her 'need' to protect Rosie from heartache was a way to try and block out the pain she was feeling about her own situation. As for Rosie, I did wonder whether she was mature enough to be married as she seemed quite young and immature in her ways but her strength shone through when the time came for her to be there to support the others.
Maggie too was at a crossroads, not knowing what her future looked like and feeling that now that her daughters were grown up and had left the nest no-one needed her anymore, and in a job that she doesn't love. I have to confess I didn't really understand why Maggie and Nick had kept their split a secret from their daughters but totally understood their reasoning of not revealing it now at what should be the happiest day of their daughter's life. The only trouble is that living a lie can create some embarrassing moments for all concerned especially when caught unawares...
The setting of Aspen was picture perfect and through her descriptive writing it sounded like a magical place to be at this time of year, the wintry scenes of dog sledging or speeding through the trails on a snow mobile made it somewhere I'd like to maybe visit one day. I particularly loved the idea of spending time in a log cabin or tree house, especially if there was someone like Jordan to spend time with.
A Wedding in December was just the tonic needed, it's a complex tale of relationships, drama and romance with a smattering of comedic moments to lighten the load. Put your feet up, relax and unwind in front of the fire with a glass of mulled wine and this gorgeous tale, you won't be disappointed.
