Festive Fun with... Lia Ginno

Today it's my pleasure to welcome author Lia Ginno to the blog for the latest Festive Fun with... feature.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a retired child development lecturer who lives with my husband in sunny Spain in the winter and UK in the summer. I write childrens books and romance books for adults. I love swimming, dancing and evenings out dinning with friends. I have two wonderful daughters that I am very proud of as they are strong, kind, caring people. My eldest daughter is a nurse and my younger daughter a primary teacher.. I have five grown up grandchildren, who I miss as they are either at uni or busy working and not so much fun now they have phones. LOL

What are you most looking forward to this Christmas?
Seeing all my family.

Do you have any favourite family Christmas traditions?
We go to the local pub for a drink in the morning then have dinner and do not open our presents until after dinner. The youngest giving out the presents.

What is your best Christmas memory?
Oh, too many. The one that comes readily to mind is when my daughters were little and we bought them big presents that came in two large cardboard boxes.  They discarded the present and played with the boxes.  They had them as ‘homes.’

Describe your ideal Christmas.
A open real fire. The smell of the Christmas tree, making jokes and tricks, which my husband usually comes up with, everyone laughing together. Slowly feeling full, mellow, happy and blessed. Going for an evening walk around our small village when it is dark seeing the stars and the lights on the decorative houses. Magical.

If you could choose one person, dead or alive, to celebrate a one time special Christmas with, who would you choose and why?
My grandmother.  I loved her to pieces and she was always fun, would actually play with me and my two sisters AND used ‘rude forbidden,’ words. She taught us kindness and unconditional love. To never throw any food away because children were starving around the world. So we would leave , even our discarded crusts and food out in the garden for animals.  I never heard her say anything bad about anyone. She made the best chips in the world and beef stew with dumplings on cold days.  I still miss her even though she died nearly 40 years ago.

What is your favourite festive book of all-time?
The night before Christmas. It was bought for me by an aunt one Christmas. I use to read it to my girls, some of my grandchildren and when I was teaching.

If you could spend Christmas with any fictional character, who would you choose and why?
Defiantly Father Christmas. I hope he would take me with him on his sleigh. Imagine flying above the roof tops. What away to spend Christmas night.

Do you have a favourite Christmassy cover?
No but I like ones with Santa and his reindeers.

Do you have any Christmas book traditions?
Sadly not.

What 3 books would you love Santa to have in his sack for you?
Sorry only one.  A thousand Splendid suns. (I loved the kite runner)

What is your favourite Christmas song?
When Santa got stuck up the chimney.

What is your favourite Christmas film?
Love actually.

And finally, what are your hopes for 2022?
To sell more of my books. To get some reviews LOL  Finish the two books I am half way through.  One is a children’s story, Hannah the hamster goes to Spain.  The other is another romance, no title yet. To become a great grandmother.
