Guest Post: The Perfect Marriage by Jo Thomas

Today it's our stop on The Honey Farm on the Hill blog tour and it's my pleasure to welcome Jo Thomas back to the blog to talk about The Perfect Marriage...

Honey really is the perfect partner. Honey can be married with so many different foods. It’s used as a replacement instead of sugar in desserts, drinks and baking. I use it on grapefruit in the mornings, or with greek yoghurt for breakfast. I’ve always used it with hot water and lemon for sore throats and colds, but it can also be used in tea, particularly herbal ones. I think it works best in the most unlikely of partnerships. They say opposites attract and honey can often taste at it best when married with a unusual bed mate.

It can be the basis of sticky marinades for pork and chicken, like sticky honey and soy chicken wings or sweet and sticky pork ribs with rice. What a fabulous Saturday night supper.

Blogiversary Giveaway #4: Take your Pick from Emma's Top Books this Year

As part of Sharon's five year blogiversary giveaways I had offered an Amazon voucher as a prize, then Sharon suggested why not do a top three books of the year for 2016 and the winner can choose the book of their choice from that selection? So that is what I'm doing although the initial idea of choosing three books has slightly stretched a bit!

I think it must be coming up to three years that I have been reviewing for Sharon and over that time I have read many wonderful books and of course a few not so great along the way. But I have been a fan of Sharon's blog right from the beginning and it's hard to believe that five years has passed so quickly. Although myself and Sharon may not have actually 'met' in real life she has become a very, very close friend to me and I feel I could tell her anything. It's not only books we chat about, it's everything and with this year being an especially tough year for me she has always been there for me - to listen to me rant, to let me offload or just offer the right words when needed. I'm very privileged to call Sharon a friend and would be lost without her and it's our love of reading and all things connected with books that brought us together and continues to develop and deepen our friendship. Sharon is so dedicated to the blog as well as working full time and I am in awe as to how she keeps everything going. She's always great at keeping me on track with what books I have to review, although my list seems to get longer not shorter - but alot of the time that's my fault.

Sharon as ever is always very generous with her giveaways and you are in for a real treat with all the goodies she has on offer to celebrate five brilliant years of reviews, début spotlights and features. Actually now that I think of it was a reader spotlight that connected myself and Sharon and we have never looked back. It was a Lesley Pearse book that Sharon first sent me so really we were destined to become friends as Lesley is a favourite author of mine for years and years. I'm delighted to be able to help celebrate five years of fantastic blogging and wish Sharon all the best for many many more years of reading, reviewing and blogging.

So now on to business as I mentioned Sharon asked me to pick my top three choices from this year. As I write it is mid October and I know there will probably more books that I read before the year is out that I would say definitely make my best books of the year list but I am going on what I have read so far. I know around the beginning of November there are three books sitting waiting to be read on my bedside locker that I have been anticipating all year but they will have to wait not to mention all the Christmas books I have yet to read (although I have made a start). I have decided to choose three books that quite simply blew me away and are still stuck in my head all these months later. They are quite serious in their themes so I decided to lighten things up a little and decided I would pick three other books on the lighter end of women's fiction so people will have a nice range from which to choose their prize once Sharon has picked the winner at the end of the giveaway. So now onto my selections.

Emma's Review: Late Summer in the Vineyard by Jo Thomas

Reviewed by Emma Crowley

Emmy Bridges has always looked out for others. Now it's time to put down roots of her own.

Working for a wine-maker in France is the opportunity of a lifetime for Emmy. Even if she doesn't know a thing about wine - beyond what's on offer at the local supermarket.

There's plenty to get to grips with in the rustic town of Petit Frère. Emmy's new work friends need more than a little winning over. Then there's her infuriatingly brash tutor, Isaac, and the enigmatic Madame Beaumont, tucked away in her vineyard of secrets.

But Emmy will soon realise that in life - just as in wine-making - the best things happen when you let go and trust your instincts. Particularly when there's romance in the air...

Guest Post: The long and winding road…... by Jo Thomas

Emma's review of Late Summer in the Vineyard by Jo Thomas will be on the blog later today but this morning it's my pleasure to host a guest post from Jo as part of her blog tour celebrations. see poster below for any of the other stops you may have missed.

Someone said to me the other day, after reading my new book Late Summer in the Vineyard, ‘Jo, when Emmy makes that cycle ride, I know exactly how she feels. I was with her all the way!’ I replied, ‘I know exactly how she feels too, because I did that bike ride, up a similar long and winding road!’

It was a typically hot summer in the South of France. I had just turned nineteen. After a number of dead-end jobs and rejections, I decided, with a friend, to take the last of my money and buy a one way coach ticket to the South of France. We were going to look for a summer job in the sun.   We asked everyone we met and then we heard of a house in the hills that was looking for house maids and managed to arrange an interview for the following day. The only problem was we had no idea how to get there. We didn’t have a car and couldn’t afford a taxi. It was far too far to walk.

Yet as she battles with a territorial goat and torrential rain just to get through the door of her new Italian home, the words of Ed, her ex, are ringing in her ears. She is daft, impetuous and irresponsible.

But Ruthie is determined to turn things around and live the dream.

First, though, she must win over her fiery neighbour, Marco Bellanouvo, and his family... Then there's the small matter of running an olive farm. As the seasons change and new roots are put down, olives and romance might just flourish in the warmth of the Mediterranean sun.
