Giveaway: Win a copy of what if I never get over you by Paige Toon

When I was invited to be a part of the what if i never get over you blog tour I immediately said yes as I have read and loved most of Paige Toon's books (I think the only ones I have not read are her YA series) so hoped that this would be the book that would pull me out of my reading slump. I thought that a date towards the end of the tour, although didn't realise it was Easter weekend, would give me plenty of time to read for review. Sadly despite enjoying what I have read so far, I am two thirds through, I didn't finish in time to review for today as I am only managing to read a chapter at a time before my concentration levels wane and tiredness hits. I'm hoping that I'll be able to share my review by the end of the month... fingers crossed!

Spring Blogger Evening at Books and the City

Last night I had the privilege to have been invited to the Spring Blogger Evening at the Books and the City HQ in London where we were once again welcomed with open arms by Sara-Jade (SJ) Virtue, Dawn Burnett, Clare Hey and the rest of the Books and the City team for what was another fabulous evening.  SJ sure does know how to throw a party...

I met up with Laura from Lozza's Book Corner earlier in the afternoon as both of us were travelling via Waterloo so we enjoyed a coffee and then moved onto the pub across from the venue until it was time to head over at the alloted time.  The evening began with us all mingling and getting the chance to catch up with blogger friends who we normally only speak to online before we headed next door to listen to the authors, and what a line up we had, talk about their books.

SJ did a very brief welcome speech before passing the baton over to Editorial Director Clare Hey who was the compere for the evening. Clare then introduced us to the authors alongside her, Juliet Ashton, Holly Hepburn, Paige Toon and Penny Parkes.

Each of the authors in turn read an extract from their books, and were asked questions about their stories by Clare, to whet our appetites... not that it was needed as all four books sound fantastic (only one I've read and reviewed so far is Juliet Ashton's These Days of Ours which can be read here),

Some of the topics covered were that Juliet Ashton wanted to explore the bonds of female friendship, as well as romance, in These Days of Ours, hot blacksmiths and barmen, and the formidable postlady, in Holly Hepburn's Star and Sixpence series (I've not read any yet as am waiting for the whole series to be complete so that I can read as a whole but Em has read and reviewed part one, and I know she's dying to read the rest but sorry Em you can't have my proof copy of Summer at the Star and Sixpence as Holly has signed it to me).

Paige Toon's book launch and giveaway for signed copies of 3 of her books

Over the last year I've been lucky enough to have been invited to some great publishing events but most of them I normally cannot go to due to work committments.  So when I received the invite to go to the book launch for Paige Toon's tenth novel The Sun in her Eyes I knew this was one that I had to attend no matter what so just had to cancel all other arrangements so that I could go.

And it was so worth the 3 hours in train journeys to and from London (perfect reading time) as it was a fantastic evening where I had the chance to chat to Paige, enjoy a couple of glasses of The Sun in Her Eyes cocktail (it tasted as good as it looked), meet up with a few fellow bloggers and chat to some other fabulous authors who were there as well.

Sadly I didn't take too many photos as the room did get a little crowded and I'm a short arse so you'll need to squint in the last photo which was of Paige in distance giving a speech.

When I knew I was going to be able to attend the book launch I decided to buy three of Paige's books to get signed by her for giveaway prizes so three lucky followers will each receive one of the following, One Perfect Summer, The Longest Holiday or her YA book The Accidental Life of Jessie Jefferson.  

Guest Post: My Wedding Dress by Paige Toon

Today I'm delighted to be part of the #13Dates blog tour for Paige Toon's latest novel Thirteen Weddings.

I had to write about so many weddings and wedding dresses in Thirteen Weddings that it brought back plenty of memories about shopping for my own wedding dress.

For someone who usually wears black, I never thought I would look good in white or cream. I remember worrying that I would never find a dress that I loved – but there was no way I was going to go for anything other than a traditional gown. 

I still clearly remember the first time I saw The Dress. My husband-to-be and I were flicking through a bridal magazine together and when we came to this shot of the dress, we both froze and then stared at each other. 

Okay, so I know your husband-to-be is not supposed to see your wedding dress before the big day, but eleven years later, it hasn’t done us any harm. I have always trusted his judgement, and he does, after all, have excellent taste (not least because he picked me, ha ha).

Weirdly, my mum also saw the same dress being advertised in another magazine and she cut out the small ad to give to me – it was the only time she had done this, so it must’ve been fate.
