Books Read: Tess Stimson - The Lying Game

There are some things we are never meant to know . . .

Harriet Lockwood has never really bonded with her daughter, Florence, the way she has with her three sons. Then one day, she discovers why. The girl she’s raised for the last fifteen years is not her biological child.

Zoey Sands is a single mother with a chaotic lifestyle. The one constant in her life is her daughter, Nell. Nothing can ever come between them – can it?

When Harriet turns up on Zoey’s doorstep demanding to see her biological daughter, the two families are plunged into a storm of bitter rivalries… and unexpected alliances.

What would you do if you suddenly discovered that your daughter is not your biological child?  This is the dilemma that Heather Lockwood finds herself in after setting out to prove the identity of her daughter Florence's father but she's totally not prepared for the results that she receives.  She's never really had a close mother/daughter relationship with Florence but she certainly never doubted that she was her daughter...

Single mother Zoey meanwhile is blissfully unaware of the storm that's about to hit her and her daughter Nell's lives.  Struggling to stay afloat financially and keep a roof over their heads, she's no match for the determination of Heather who wants to meet her biological daughter to see what she looks like and how she's turned out.

The Lying Game follows the story of these two previously unconnected families as they struggle to come to terms with their situation and work out what's best for both of the girls.

From the synopsis I was intrigued as to how it would all pan out but I felt that the story was all a little too rushed, personally I think a lot more could have been made about how the switch happened in the first place seeing as it had such a major impact on their lives.  At just over 320 pages, this was a quick but enjoyable read that you could read in a single sitting if you had the time to do so.
